Doug and his new Christmas X-Wing! Christmas 1979

Doug tells us,”I have always been jealous of people who have Christmas Day photos of their new Star Wars toys, and my sister just uncovered this and sent it to me! It is a photo of a photo, and I cropped and straightened it, but I will just leave the color and sharpness alone because it looks pretty accurate.

Thankfully the photo is marked Dec 79. I just turned 10 years old a couple months earlier. If it were not for the date, I would have assumed I got the X-Wing in 1978, but I guess not! We only really got “big” gifts like this for birthdays and Christmas. I can’t imagine waiting an entire year to get more Star Wars toys, but I guess time moved differently as a kid.

I have also attached current photos of my collection. It has all sat in boxes in the basement of my parents’ house for 40+ years! The figures were literally in a shoebox all this time. I recently located them, and more carefully packed them all in bins and tissue paper. Plus all the sets of Star Wars cards were there too, that were in a shoebox of their own. Unfortunately, I do not have the “erotic” version of the C-3PO card.

In the Christmas photo, you can see that I just put the stickers on the X-Wing, and the sticker sheet sits on the floor to my left. There also appear to be a couple figure cards there. I have no idea which figures or other toys I got that year.

I saw Star Wars in the theater in the summer of 1977. I was 7 years old, and to this day, it remains the best movie I have ever seen. Nothing can compare to that experience. I still remember, when we walked out of the theater, my older brother and I were talking about the opening Star Destroyer scene, and how it was so big, it just kept going and going over our heads!”

Thanks Doug!
